Theme: Monster Hunters

It would seem inevitable with the popularity of the monster movie that there would emerge someone with the job description of monster hunter. The first and most famous monster hunter would be Dr Van Helsing in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897) who comes with a body of arcane knowledge and assembles a team to slay Dracula. There have been numerous depictions of Van Helsing and his ancestors on screen. most definitively portrayed by Peter Cushing in the Hammer Dracula films.

Van Helsing was succeeded by a whole host of other vampire hunters ranging from Buffy to Blade. There have been assorted other demon, zombie and general monster hunters depicted on screen. You could include also here the idea of the dragonslayer and other works that take place in a fantasy setting.
