Theme: God

God refers to a monotheistic deity commonly assumed in religious practice to be the creator of the universe and ruler of Heaven and the afterlife. This concept of God is most commonly one that derived from Judaeo-Christian and Islamic traditions. Worldviews and mythologies that feature multiple gods are discussed under Gods and Deities.

The common depiction is of God as a fatherly figure – an old man in a beard. That said, there have been plentiful variants on this on screen including God as a woman, African-American or as an unassuming everyday figure.

God occasionally turns up in assorted Light Fantasy offerings and comedies, most notedly George Burns in Oh, God! (1977) and sequels, or Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty (2003) and sequel. Usually God is a supporting character or will make a surprise appearance or be revealed to have been aiding events behind the scenes in some way.

There are also a number of other works in a far more irreverent, satirical or gonzo vein or even at times downright blasphemous. God can also make unexpected appearances or else be encountered in visions or drug hallucinations.
