Theme: Simulation

Simulation refers to any kind of attempts to construct a replica or likeness of the real world or some part thereof. Specific versions of these are dealt with under Virtual Reality, while the implantation of artificial memories is covered under Altered Memory.

Other examples can include the recurrent idea that we are all living in a virtual simulation a la The Matrix (1999), which has become a real world conspiracy theory in recent years; the construction and manipulation of lifelike versions of parts of the real world by aliens (usually as an experiment); worlds built with the use of actors or android replicas such as the amusement parks in Westworld (1973) and Westworld (2016-); and the holodecks that appear in the various incarnations of Star Trek.
