Since the 1980s, the killer clown has been a regular figure in horror film. The trope was popularised by the tv adaptation of the Stephen King novel with It (1990). Although the most popular of killer clowns was The Joker in the various Batman films and tv series.
The killer clown film has become a regular feature in a series of mostly low-budget films since the mid-2000s and especially after the theatrical remake of It (2017). These vary between regular psychopathic clowns and those that are supernaturally empowered.
