Plot

A Japanese film crew are shooting a porn film in the countryside. As they retire for the night, the men set their intents on sleeping with the actresses. At the same time, a filthy person who is possibly non-human, moves through the area, forcibly having his way with the women, tearing them apart with his massive penis.

The pinku film is a unique phenomenon in Japanese Cinema. It is the Japanese equivalent of a Porn Film, although is often very different to the Western equivalent. For one, Japanese censorship forbids the showing of pubic hair on screen and so you frequently get scenes where the crotch has been digitally blurred out. Pinku films often push much more of an envelope than Western porn and erotica – there is a disturbing recurrence of films with ‘rape’ in many of the titles, for instance.

Kazuo ‘Gaira’ Komizu has gained a cult reputation of sorts among devotees of the pinku genre. Gaira directed twenty films between 1970 and 1995, as well as wrote scripts for a number of others. Most of these are adult films but around the 1980s Gaira began to offer bizarre combinations of erotica and horror with works such as Entrails of a Virgin/Guts of a Virgin here, Entrails of a Beautiful Woman (1986), which was sold as Guts of a Virgin 2 in some areas but is unrelated, and Female Inquisitor (1987), which was repackaged as Rusted Body: Guts of a Virgin III. Gaira also made Battle Girl: The Living Dead in Tokyo Bay/Battle Girl: Tokyo Crisis Wars (1991), a regular non-adult zombie film.

I should issue a warning upfront that Entrails of a Virgin is fairly out there material. It portrays assorted sexual scenes both during the shooting of the porn film and in the partying and attacks afterwards. On the other hand, for a film that is supposedly an adult one, there seems something quaint whenever we are in danger of seeing any genitalia or pubic regions that the screen becomes gauzed out.

That said, we still manage to get some bizarre sequences. In one scene, a guy tricks one of the girls into a wrestling match during which we get a series of closeups on their mutual crotches, albeit clad in underwear, before he delivers a pile driver knockout to her and she ends up pissing in her pants. In another scene, one of the girls is desperate for sexual relief and ends up masturbating with a severed arm taken from one of the corpses.

Most of the women throughout do not seem to be enjoying participating in the sex scenes – in almost all cases, they seem to be there against their will and/or are struggling to get away. I don’t know if this is a thing in pinku films, if this is the director’s particular fetishes, or if it really was a case of the actresses actually having to perform the scenes under duress.

Entrails of a Virgin is a film with sexual politics that would make most modern people have a meltdown. In the latter half, there is a creature (?) stalking around the house where everyone spends the night. It is not clear what the creature is – one synopsis I read called it a demon, while the credits list is simply as The Killer, which suggests something more mundane. It is naked, covered in dirt and markings and in silhouette is seen as having a massive dick. It comes and forces its way with the women. The women are shown enjoying this, even as the act tears them apart.
