Theme: Norse Mythology

Norse Mythology refers to a series of folk legends originating from Scandinavia around at least the 13th Century. The surviving texts, the Eddas, tell stories of mortals and their encounters with the gods, led by the might Odin, in Valhalla and of how Earth emerged from the giant Yggdrasil tree.

There are very few actual adaptations of stories from Norse Myth. Occasional artefacts from the stories – runestones, the kraken, berserker spirts, Valkyries – turn up in films. In others, we get mention of Ragnarok, the Norse end of the world.

There are a number of appearances of Norse gods, usually living in the present-day. The most well-known of these is the god Thor who turns up as a superhero in the Marvel Comics Universe.
